• Carroll University will host a forum with the two candidates for the 97th Assembly District, Republican Bill Kramer and Democrat Ruth Page Jones.  The public is invited to the forum, which will be held in the Campus Center (101 N. East Ave.) at 5 p.m.

• Steve Schmuki (Democratic candidate for the 97th Assembly primary): Get Out the Vote canvassing and lit drop. Volunteers meet at Java Connection, 136 East St. Paul, 9:30 a.m.
• Ruth Page Jones (Democratic candidate for the 97th Assembly primary): Meet the candidate at the Waukesha Art Fest. Cutler Park.

Bill Kramer Discusses State Budget Issues, October 29

Just days before the November 4th election, Republican Assembly candidate Bill Kramer offers his opinion on the next Wisconsin budget.  The state faces a $3 billion shortfall in the coming biennium, forcing legislators of both parties to make difficult decisions about state programs and taxes.

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Endorses Ruth Page Jones for 97th Assembly

On October 24, the state's largest newspaper endorsed Democrat Ruth Page Jones over incumbent Republican Bill Kramer for the 97th Assembly district.  The Journal-Sentinel praised both candidates but backs Jones bases on her support for regional transportation and cooperation.

Assembly Candidates assert differences

At Monday's candidate forum at Carroll University, Republican incumbent Bill Kramer and Democrat Ruth Page Jones sharply defined the differences in thier ideas.  Jones called for greater state investment in education and public safety, while Kramer insisted on the need to control taxes and spending.

97th Assembly District Race: Bill Kramer and Ruth Page Jones

Voters in the 97th Assembly district, made up largely of the city and town of Waukesah, have not elected a Democrat since 1982.  Democrats hope to change that with Ruth Page Jones, who won a close primary victory over Steve Schmuki in September.  Jones, a political newcomer, is campaigning on a platform to improve school funding, lowering property taxes, and bring jobs to Waukesha in new industries like alternative energy.  Jones faces an uphill battle against incumbent Republican Bill Kramer, now completing his first term.  Kramer's campaign emphasizes tax issues, and the candidate has supported property-tax caps on local governments and efforts to lower business taxes to create jobs in the state.
